Olivia's words

Here are the words Olivia seems to be able to use

At 17 months, she was using:
  • Bye bye
  • Shoes
  • Book
  • Ba ba (daddy)
  • More
  • No
  • Uh oh
  • Baby
  • Xie xie (thank you in Mandarin, this is Spencer's favorite, as she says it with a very sweet voice)
  • Done
And at 20 months, she has developed usage of the below words (some on a very limited basis.)
  • Hai yo: I want more (in Mandarin)
  • Hi
  • Duck
  • Car
  • Dog
  • Feet
  • Outside
  • El-Mo
  • Diaper
  • Na na (Banana)
  • Ball
  • Down
  • Cheese
She still doesn't say 'Ma ma' with any regularity. She might be a little slow relative to other kids her age, but I think this is one of the costs of daycare vs nanny. We had thought about getting her a nanny until preschool, but she is extremely happy at her current daycare, and there are other kids that she can play with.

We'll be heading to the library this weekend to check out some new board books, Babar, Richard Scarry, ... Send me your comments on the words that we should be teaching her and books I should be reading to her.

Olivia, before and after

First, the 'before' pictures. These pictures were taken by the people who come to your hospital room after the baby is born, then try to sell you the shots for $32/shot. Spencer figured out how to copy them from the site for free.

Dragonboating

Last weekend, I joined my company team in a dragonboat race at Jack London Square.

Here are some other things we've been up to since my last post:
  • Gardening (well, Spencer, not me. I've never been into gardening)
  • Trying to stop making excuses and to start exercising again. It really does get harder the longer you stop. It gets even harder when you know that you need to avoid achy muscles and exhaustion in order to have the strength it takes to handle the baby.
  • Dealing with 19 months of bank statements (I haven't opened an envelope from the bank since Olivia was born.
