Does anyone want pears?

We have a pear tree in our backyard. I have no idea why anyone would plant a pear tree in their yard. Pears are pretty much inedible when unripe. They ripen quickly, then have a very short window of ripeness before they spoil. So, unlike with a storable fruit such as apples or lemons, your harvest is more likely to end up in the composting bin than in something edible.

I've been searching the web for pear recpies with a high pear utilization to effort ratio. I made this pear cornmeal bread last week. I'm working on making pear butter right now. In the unlikely event that I could get my act together to have friends for dinner, I'd make this pear crisp for dessert. If the baby takes a nap maybe I'll try to make a pear bread.

If you live locally and like pears, let me know and I'll bring a bag of pears or a pear dessert to your house!
